The Papal Visit

At Masses today the Bishops of Scotland England and Wales ask us to pray for the Pope and for the success of his visit to Britain later in the year.

According to The Tablet, the cost of the Papal Visit in September will be in the region of £15 million. The state costs of the visit will be met by the government but the church needs to meet the costs of the pastoral aspects of the visit—around £7million.

The Bishops have asked that a collection be taken up in all churches today to help defrays the costs of the event. I am sorry for the short notice. There are prayer cards and envelopes at the back of the church today. If you would prefer to take an envelope and return your donation next Sunday please do so, as I won’t send in the collection total until Monday 31 May.
